Limeil-Brévannes lies in the Val-de-Marne, southeast of Paris, between the Créteil area and the edge of the Brie plateau. On a map it looks like a patchwork: tight residential streets of detached houses, more open blocks of later housing, and wide parcels where larger sites interrupt the fine grain. There is no single centre dominating the plan, which gives the commune its layered, lived-in character.
The double name reflects two older settlements, Limeil and Brévannes, that grew together into one commune. That history still shows in the street pattern, which has more than one point of gravity. The commune is also known for the Émile-Roux hospital, part of the Paris hospital system, whose grounds appear as a large, calmer area among the surrounding streets.
