Linhares Map Poster & Print
Linhares lies in northern Espírito Santo on the north bank of the Rio Doce, one of the principal rivers of southeastern Brazil, not far from where it reaches the Atlantic. On a map the city is framed by water: the broad river along its southern edge and the long Lagoa Juparanã, which extends northward from the edge of town.
The municipality is the largest in the state by area and includes many lagoons, coastal plain and forest reserves, among them part of the Sooretama biological reserve. At Regência, the river mouth within Linhares, the Rio Doce drew international attention after the 2015 Mariana dam collapse sent mining sediment downstream to the sea.
