Linqu is a county of Weifang, in the central part of Shandong province. Its main town sits where the lowlands to the north give way to the hills and low mountains that cover much of central Shandong. On the map this shows as a compact urban grid on flatter ground, with roads leading out along the valleys into a more rugged landscape of villages and farmland.
The town's streets follow a fairly regular pattern of broad avenues and blocks, typical of many Chinese county seats that have grown quickly in recent decades. A river passes the town, and its course adds a natural curve to the otherwise orderly plan. The surrounding county is largely rural, and the contrast between the dense centre and the open countryside is clear from above.
