Lokbatan is a settlement within the Garadagh district of Baku, in Azerbaijan, lying southwest of the city centre near the shore of the Caspian Sea. The land here is dry and bare, and from above the settlement appears as a cluster of streets and low buildings set among open, uneven terrain, with main transport routes passing toward the south.
Oil has defined Lokbatan for decades, and the surrounding area is marked by oil fields, pipelines and industrial sites. The settlement is also known for the Lokbatan mud volcano, one of the most active in Azerbaijan, which has erupted several times with flames.
