Luojing Map Poster & Print
Luojing is in Baoshan District, on the northern edge of Shanghai, on the south bank of the Yangtze estuary. The river is so wide here that it looks almost like the sea, with Chongming Island on the other side. On the map, the shoreline forms a long, straight edge, lined with docks, embankments and industrial areas.
Like many towns in the Yangtze Delta, Luojing has an old centre dating from the time when life depended on canals and small rivers. These waterways still cross the town, although much of the surrounding land has been transformed by modern development, roads and port facilities that serve one of the busiest industrial areas in Shanghai.
A Luojing map poster brings together different scales: the fine, irregular pattern of the old town and its canals, the regular blocks of newer residential areas, and the large geometric shapes of the docks. The estuary on one side gives the composition a strong horizon line, and the water creates a large, calm space.
