Lushoto sits in the Western Usambara Mountains in Tanzania's Tanga Region, well above the hot lowlands. In the German colonial period it was a hill station called Wilhelmstal, valued for its cool climate. Today it is a district town and a base for walks into the surrounding mountains.
The terrain shapes everything on the map. Roads don't run straight. They follow contours, switch back up slopes and bend around ridges. The town centre sits in a valley, and houses and paths climb the hillsides around it, so the street network looks like a series of curves, not a grid.

The town's core sits in a valley floor where roads meet. Around it, lanes climb outward, so the centre reads as a clear hub with branches going uphill.

Tracks spread from the edge of town into farmland and forest on the Usambara slopes. On the print they fade into fine lines, pointing to the walking routes nearby.
