Manhumirim Map Poster & Print
Manhumirim lies in the Zona da Mata of eastern Minas Gerais, a region of steep hills, small rivers and coffee farms not far from the Serra do Caparaó. The town grew along the valley floor. On a map its streets follow the lie of the land, stretching out where the ground is flat and thinning quickly as the slopes rise.
This is the defining feature of a Manhumirim map poster: the terrain shaped the street pattern more than any plan did. Roads curve with the watercourses, and side streets climb a short way up the hillsides before they stop. The outer frame is filled with winding tracks that connect farms scattered over the surrounding hills.
Coffee is central to the local economy, as it is across this part of Minas, and the countryside around the town is a mix of plantations, pasture and remnants of Atlantic Forest. In black and white, that complexity becomes a series of fine, meandering lines, which gives the print the quiet intricacy of a contour drawing.
