Moa Map Poster
Moa lies on the northeastern coast of Cuba, in Holguín Province, where the mountains of the east come close to the Atlantic. From above, the town is a mix of residential districts, large industrial sites and roads that link them along the coast. Rivers descend from the hills into the sea, and a reef-sheltered shoreline marks the northern edge.
The town is the centre of Cuba's nickel industry. The surrounding reddish lateritic soils contain large deposits of nickel and cobalt, and the processing plants built around Moa have shaped the town's growth and much of its economy. To the southeast lie the forested mountains of Alejandro de Humboldt National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
