Mussoorie Map Poster & Print
Mussoorie sits on a ridge in the Himalayan foothills of Uttarakhand, around 2,000 metres above sea level, with the Doon Valley and Dehradun spread out below to the south. It was founded as a hill station in the nineteenth century, during British rule, and is often called the Queen of the Hills. The map is long and narrow, following the crest of the ridge.
The Mall Road runs through the heart of the town from Library Chowk towards Kulri, and Camel's Back Road curves around the northern side of the hill, named after a rock formation along its route. Gun Hill rises above the town as a viewpoint. To the east, Landour climbs higher still, with its old cantonment and quiet lanes where the writer Ruskin Bond has long lived.
Below the ridge the slopes fall steeply, crossed by footpaths, hairpin roads and scattered buildings among deodar and oak. The Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration, which trains India's senior civil servants, is also here. Camel's Back Road
This quieter road curves around the northern side of the hill, away from the traffic of the Mall, and follows the contour of the slope in a long, graceful arc.
Landour
East of the main town, the old cantonment of Landour climbs to higher ground in winding lanes, with its buildings loosely scattered among trees on the upper slopes.
