Mykonos Map Poster & Print
Mykonos is a compact island in the Cyclades, dry and rocky, with low hills and hardly any trees. Its coastline breaks into a long series of bays and headlands, and roads branch out from the main town to reach them. The south coast is a string of sheltered sandy beaches. The north faces the wind, with deeper, emptier inlets such as Panormos Bay.
The main town, Chora, sits on the west coast around the old harbour. Its whitewashed lanes twist and double back, a pattern often said to have been meant to confuse pirates, and on a map they form a dense, irregular knot. In Little Venice, houses are built right over the sea, and a row of windmills stands on the ridge above.
Just to the southwest lies Delos, a small uninhabited island that was one of the great sanctuaries of the ancient Greek world and, in myth, the birthplace of Apollo and Artemis. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, reached by boat from Mykonos. A Mykonos map poster places the town's tangled streets beside the open curves of the bays around it.
