Namhkam lies in northern Shan State, Myanmar, in the valley of the Shweli River near the border with China. The town sits on the valley floor, with hills rising on either side and paddy fields spreading across the flat land along the river.
On the map, Namhkam has a compact centre of streets and blocks, with roads leading along the valley toward neighbouring towns and the border crossings. The river runs nearby in wide curves, and the surrounding fields give the drawing a textured, open setting.
A Namhkam map poster also connects to a notable history: the town was home to the hospital of Dr. Gordon Seagrave, the American doctor known as the Burma Surgeon, who worked here for decades in the twentieth century.
