Nanterre Map Poster & Print
Nanterre lies west of Paris on a broad bend of the Seine and is the prefecture of the Hauts-de-Seine department. Its map is varied rather than uniform: an old town centre with small, irregular blocks, large twentieth-century housing estates, a university campus, rail yards, and the high-rise district of La Défense reaching into its eastern side.
The historic axis that begins at the Louvre and runs through the Arc de Triomphe continues past the Grande Arche into Nanterre, where a sequence of landscaped terraces carries it on toward the river. Motorways, railway lines and RER tracks thread through the town, and the Paris La Défense Arena, a large indoor stadium, sits close to the business district.
Nanterre is also home to Université Paris Nanterre, whose campus forms one of the largest open shapes on the map.
