Niimi lies in the mountains of northwestern Okayama Prefecture, in the upper basin of the Takahashi River. The steep land shapes everything. On a map the town is a narrow strip of streets packed into the valley floor, with forested slopes rising on both sides and the river running through the middle.
Niimi Station is a junction where the Hakubi Line, which links the Seto Inland Sea coast with the San'in coast, meets other local lines heading west. The surrounding area is known for its limestone landscape and caves, including Ikura-dō, which opens near the river gorge.

Tracks meet at Niimi Station and then separate toward different coasts. Their long, smooth curves stand out against the tighter street grid.
Forested ridges
Steep, wooded hills rise close on both sides of the valley. On the poster they appear as wide empty margins that make the town's linear form more pronounced.
