Old Town Map Poster & Print
Prague's Old Town, Staré Město, sits on the east bank of the Vltava where the river bends. On the map its boundaries are clear. The water runs along the west and north, and a curving line of streets on the east and south, including Národní and Na Příkopě, follows the course of the old town walls and moat. Inside that arc, streets twist and branch with little regard for straight lines.
Old Town Square is at the heart of it, an irregular open space overlooked by the Týn Church and the Old Town Hall, whose astronomical clock dates from 1410. From here, the Royal Route runs through narrow lanes to Charles Bridge, the fourteenth-century stone crossing to the Lesser Town. The former Jewish Quarter, Josefov, occupies the northern part of the district.
An Old Town map poster captures one of the best-preserved medieval street plans in Europe, part of the historic center's UNESCO listing. The medieval stone bridge crosses the Vltava at a slight angle. It is one of several bridges that tie the Old Town to the opposite bank and the castle hill.
The old moat line
Národní, Na Příkopě and Revoluční follow the curve of the former fortifications. Together they draw a clean arc that separates the Old Town from the New Town.
