关于地图
Orsk Map Poster & Print
Orsk lies in the east of Orenburg Oblast, close to the border with Kazakhstan, where the Or River flows into the Ural. The Ural, conventionally treated as a boundary between Europe and Asia, cuts through the city, so its districts sit on both sides. On the map this gives Orsk a divided shape: built-up areas facing each other across a broad river valley and its floodplain.
The oldest part of the city lies near the confluence, around a hill where the original fortress was built in the eighteenth century. Other districts, including the large residential and industrial areas of the Soviet period, spread along the river with long straight avenues and blocks of apartment buildings. Railway lines and factory complexes add large, angular shapes to the outer map.
In the nineteenth century the Ukrainian poet Taras Shevchenko served in exile at the Orsk fortress, and a museum in the city remembers him. Later, Orsk grew into an industrial centre for metallurgy and oil refining. An Orsk map poster shows how the river, the old hill and the Soviet grids fit together on the edge of two continents.

Fortress hill
Near the confluence with the Or, the hill where the original fortress stood marks the historic core, the point from which the old streets spread down toward the river.
Soviet-era districts
Long straight avenues and large apartment blocks laid out in the twentieth century form a regular pattern along the river, contrasting with the winding water and floodplain.

为什么选 Orsk
一张有意义的地图
Orsk has a rare distinction: its streets span two continents. For people who grew up there, worked at its plants or moved away across the border region, a map of the city is both personal and quietly remarkable.
Give the poster a title and subtitle of your own, perhaps the name of a district or a year, and set the coordinates line. Choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand, and download HD files for $9 or order a printed poster.
