Oyam lies in Moyen-Ogooué province in central Gabon, just south of the equator. This part of the country belongs to the wide basin of the Ogooué, Gabon's largest river system. The land is heavily forested, crossed by streams and wetlands, and settlements tend to line up along the few roads and waterways that link them.
Little is widely documented about the town itself, so its map speaks mostly through geography. Streets gather in a compact cluster, and the main routes leave it in just a few directions. Around them lie large areas with no drawn roads at all. That emptiness is part of the picture, the space held by forest, water and slope in the equatorial interior.
