Ozëry Map Poster & Print
Ozëry sits on the Oka River in the southeast of Moscow Oblast. The name means lakes. The town grew in the nineteenth century as a centre of cotton weaving, and its mills drew workers from the surrounding villages. In recent years it has been merged administratively with Kolomna, but on the map it is still a separate town with a recognisable form of its own.
The river is the main feature, sweeping past in a broad curve with open meadows on the far bank. The older part of town lies closest to the water, with former mill buildings and low houses on small plots. Later apartment blocks form more regular neighbourhoods further inland, and forests and fields surround the town on all sides.
Ozëry is a place of river summers, walks along the bank and the industrial heritage of the Moscow region's textile towns.
