Pallāvaram Map Poster & Print
Pallāvaram sits on the south-western side of Chennai, directly next to the city's international airport. From above, the pattern is a dense mesh of residential streets running up to a group of low rocky hills. The Grand Southern Trunk Road runs through as a firm straight axis, and the suburban railway line follows it closely.
The area is known to archaeologists: in 1863 the geologist Robert Bruce Foote found a stone hand axe at Pallāvaram, one of the first recognised Palaeolithic tools in India. Later it became a cantonment, and military land still breaks up parts of the street pattern. Today it is part of the larger Tambaram city corporation.
A Pallāvaram map poster is a portrait of a suburb shaped by fixed edges. The airport's long runways and aprons occupy a large, clean block on one side. The hills leave pockets of open ground, and the tight grid of residential lanes fills almost everything else.

Low granite hills rise within the suburb. They appear as irregular open patches in the street pattern, and houses climb only partway up their slopes.
GST Road corridor
The Grand Southern Trunk Road and the parallel suburban railway form a strong spine through the area. They connect Pallāvaram to central Chennai and to Tambaram further south.
