Paramonga Map Poster
Paramonga lies at the northern edge of Lima region, near the Pacific coast, where the Fortaleza river waters a strip of land in otherwise bare coastal desert. On the map this contrast is everything. Fields and streets fill the valley floor, and the land around them turns abruptly empty where the water stops.
The town grew up around a large sugar mill, and its plan reflects that industrial origin: orderly residential blocks, rail and road connections, and the mill complex forming a large, distinct shape near the centre. The Pan-American Highway passes close by, a long straight line that runs along the coast and links the valley to the rest of Peru.
Just outside town stands the Fortaleza de Paramonga, a large pre-Columbian adobe complex with stepped, terraced walls, usually attributed to the Chimú culture. A Paramonga map poster brings together the present-day grid and the valley around it, a small green world laid out between the desert hills and the Pacific Ocean.
