关于地图
Ponorogo Map Poster & Print
Ponorogo lies in the west of East Java, in a fertile valley between the volcanic massifs of Lawu and Wilis. From above, the town follows the traditional Javanese plan. The alun-alun, the large open square, sits at the centre, main roads extend from it in straight lines, and a grid of residential streets fills the space between them before giving way to rice fields.
Ponorogo is famous as the home of Reog, a dramatic performance in which a dancer carries a huge tiger-head mask topped with peacock feathers. Reog is closely tied to the town's identity. Its festivals and performances bring crowds to the central square, which turns the open space on the map into the stage of the town's public life.
A Ponorogo map poster reduces all this to its essentials: a clear central square, an orderly grid and the fine texture of paddy fields at the edges. In black and white the structure of a Javanese regency town becomes easy to see, organised around one open space.

A regular grid
Streets extend from the centre in a fairly regular grid. They create an ordered pattern of blocks that thins out towards the farmland.
Rice field margins
Paddy fields reach close to the town on all sides. Their small divided plots add a delicate texture around the outline of the built-up area.
