Pont-à-Celles sits in the province of Hainaut, just north of Charleroi, in the rolling farmland of Wallonia. It is a municipality made up of several villages, including Luttre. From above, it looks less like one town than a set of centres joined by country roads, with open fields in between.
The defining line is the Brussels–Charleroi Canal, which runs through the municipality in long, engineered stretches. Alongside it, the smaller River Piéton meanders more freely. Railway lines and roads cross the waterways at a few points. Together they draw a network of straight and curving strokes across the landscape.
A Pont-à-Celles map poster shows that layered geography well. The canal forms a firm diagonal, the village cores appear as small knots of streets and the farmland in between gives the design room to breathe. It is a map of a place defined as much by its connections as by its centres.
