Reşiţa Map Poster & Print
Reşiţa lies in the Banat Mountains of southwestern Romania, and its map is shaped almost entirely by the Bârzava valley. The town stretches along the river for several kilometres, squeezed between steep wooded slopes, so the built-up area forms a long, narrow band rather than a rounded city. Side streets climb short distances up the hillsides and then stop where the terrain becomes too steep.
Industry defined the place. Ironworks were established here in 1771, and in 1872 Reşiţa built the first steam locomotives made in what is now Romania. The large works and rail lines along the valley floor still appear on the map as broad, heavy shapes set among the housing districts.
The town's steam locomotive museum honours that heritage, and the surrounding mountains hold reservoirs and forests that draw visitors from across the region.
