Rolante Map Poster & Print
Rolante lies in the Paranhana valley region of Rio Grande do Sul, at the foot of the hills that climb toward the Serra Gaúcha. On the map, the town follows the course of the Rolante River. Its streets are arranged along the valley floor, and newer districts extend up the gentler slopes on either side, stopping where the ground gets steep.
Beyond the town, the land rises into wooded hills and farmland, with roads winding along streams and ridges. The map has a varied texture: a fairly regular grid near the centre, then curving roads and river lines that follow the terrain rather than a plan. The hills around Rolante are cut by many small streams and waterfalls.
The area was settled largely by German and other European immigrants in the nineteenth century, and that heritage still shows in local food, including cuca, a crumb-topped cake.
