Ronglong lies in the western part of Chongqing municipality, in the hilly country that runs toward Sichuan. Flat land is scarce in this landscape. Towns sit in the valleys between low, rounded hills, and roads follow the contours rather than cutting straight across them. On the map, the built area is compact, with a small cluster of streets that spreads outward in fingers.
Around the town, the countryside is intensively farmed. Terraced fields and scattered hamlets cover the slopes, connected by narrow roads and paths that twist through the hills. This pattern of dense small settlements and winding links is typical of the Chongqing hinterland. It shows up clearly in fine linework.
