关于地图
Rottenburg Map Poster & Print
Rottenburg am Neckar lies in a narrow stretch of the Neckar valley, upstream from Tübingen. The river runs through the middle of town. The historic centre sits mainly on one bank and the older Ehingen quarter on the other, with bridges linking them. On a map, the valley walls hold the streets in a long, narrow band that follows the river.
The town has been the seat of the Catholic bishop of the Diocese of Rottenburg-Stuttgart since the nineteenth century, and St. Martin's Cathedral stands at the heart of the old centre. Its history reaches back much further. In Roman times it was the settlement of Sumelocenna, and archaeological remains from that period have been found beneath the modern town.
A Rottenburg map poster brings out the close relationship between river, bridges and old town. The tight medieval street plan sits in the valley floor, and newer districts spread along the roads and up the gentler slopes. It is a small, precise composition with a strong sense of setting.

Cathedral quarter
St. Martin's and the market square anchor a tight grid of old streets. This area is the densest and most intricate part of the drawing.
Valley walls
Wooded slopes close in on both sides, so the built-up area stays long and narrow. This gives the map its distinctive stretched outline.
