Seven Oaks is a census-designated place in Lexington County, on the north-western side of the Columbia area in South Carolina. It is a suburb in the fullest sense, much of it built in the second half of the twentieth century as the capital's commuter belt expanded. From above it shows a pattern of winding streets and cul-de-sacs, with commercial strips lining the main roads that lead to downtown Columbia.
Interstate 26 runs close by, and its interchanges form sharp, precise shapes against the softer residential pattern. Between neighbourhoods, narrow wooded bands follow small creeks that drain towards the rivers around Columbia, leaving plenty of green in the street plan. The overall effect is organic and layered, a typical Southern suburb where roads follow the terrain rather than a strict compass grid.
