Slovyansk Map Poster & Print
Slovyansk grew up in the valley of the Kazennyi Torets river in the north of Donetsk region. The map shows a city that isn't quite centred. A core of regular blocks sits near the river. Then long residential arms stretch along the roads that follow the valley, with private-house neighbourhoods on small plots filling the spaces in between.
The city's name points to salt. Brine springs and salt lakes here were worked for centuries, and the town was known as Tor before being renamed Slavyansk in the eighteenth century. The Ripne and Slipne lakes north of the centre later made it a spa town, known for its mud treatments and mineral waters.
A Slovyansk map poster puts those lakes and the river corridor in their place around the street grid. In black and white, the lakes read as smooth, rounded shapes against the finer texture of housing. The woods and floodplain give the city a softer outer edge than many industrial towns in the region.
