Sunnyside Map Poster & Print
Sunnyside is a city in the lower Yakima Valley of central Washington, in dry country made productive by irrigation. The town grew with the canals that carry water across the valley, and the landscape around it is a patchwork of orchards, hop yards, vineyards and dairy farms.
On the map, the city is laid out on a tidy grid, while irrigation canals run across it at angles that follow the land rather than the streets. The Yakima River lies a few miles to the south, and the surrounding section-line roads divide the farmland into large rectangles.
A Sunnyside map poster shows this working landscape clearly: the regular grid of town, the diagonal curves of canals slicing through it, and the geometric fields beyond. It is a very American composition, shaped by surveyors and by water engineering in equal measure.
