Tahla lies in the Taza area of the Fes-Meknes region, where the Middle Atlas begins to rise north of the range. On a map the town is compact. A dense core of streets and closely packed houses sits on sloping ground, with newer blocks spreading along the roads leading out. Street lines bend to follow the terrain instead of running in a strict grid.
The countryside around Tahla is agricultural and hilly. Olive groves, cereal fields and seasonal watercourses break up the land, and the roads wind as they climb. On a printed sheet the difference is clear: fine, crowded streets in the centre give way to looser lanes and then to the long curving lines of rural routes crossing the foothills.
