Naryn River
One of Central Asia's major rivers runs directly through town. Its winding course sets the direction of almost every street around it.

关于地图
Tash-Kumyr Map Poster & Print
Tash-Kumyr sits in Kyrgyzstan's Jalal-Abad Region, where the Naryn River cuts through the foothills before it reaches the Fergana Valley. The town's name means stone coal, and it grew in the Soviet period around the coal mines in the surrounding hills. Mining and later hydropower on the Naryn shaped its economy and its layout.
Because the valley is narrow, the town cannot spread in every direction. On the map, streets and housing blocks stretch along the river in a long, thin shape. Roads follow the contour of the slopes, and the Naryn runs through the middle of it all. The terrain is visible in the plan itself: the buildings stop where the hillsides get too steep.
A Tash-Kumyr map poster is mostly about that tension between river and mountain. It has none of the regular grid of a plains city. What you get instead is a settlement that has had to follow the valley floor, with the blank space of the hills pressing in on both sides.

Linear valley town
Hemmed in by the gorge, Tash-Kumyr stretches along the valley floor rather than outward. The result is an elongated street pattern that reads clearly at poster scale.
Mining heritage
The town grew around coal extraction in the Soviet era. Industrial roads and old works sites on the outskirts still mark that history on the map.
