关于地图
Thembisa Map Poster & Print
Thembisa, often spelled Tembisa, is one of the largest townships in South Africa. It lies in the city of Ekurhuleni in Gauteng, between Johannesburg and Pretoria, and was established in the late 1950s. Its name is usually translated as promise or hope. From above, it is a dense, even mesh of small streets and plots covering the gently rolling grassland.
The township is divided into many named sections, each with its own pattern of streets, and the transitions between them are visible on the map. Larger roads run through and around the area, linking it to the nearby suburbs, industrial areas and highways. Small streams and open spaces cross the grid in places.
A Thembisa map poster records a place that has grown and changed considerably over the decades, with newer extensions on the edges of the original sections. The result is a detailed, textured map in which the street patterns tell part of the story of how the township was built and expanded.

为什么选 Thembisa
一张有意义的地图
For many families, Thembisa is home across generations, and a map of the streets they grew up in is a meaningful thing to have on a wall. It makes a thoughtful gift for someone who has moved away.
You can put the name of a section in the title, add a date or a family name to the subtitle, and adjust the coordinates. Choose one of five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand.
