关于地图
Tucupita Map Poster & Print
Tucupita is the capital of Delta Amacuro state in eastern Venezuela, and it sits on the Caño Manamo, one of the main distributary channels of the Orinoco Delta. On the map, the town follows the river, its streets forming a modest grid on the higher ground along the bank. Around it, water dominates: channels, lagoons and marshes spread out in every direction.
The delta is the home of the Warao people, whose name is often translated as the boat people, and many communities live along the channels in houses built on stilts. Tucupita serves as the main gateway for travel into the delta, where boats replace roads. The damming of the Caño Manamo in the 1960s changed water levels and salinity in parts of the region.
A Tucupita map poster is as much about water as land. The town's compact grid sits on the edge of a vast, intricate network of channels, and in black and white the contrast between the regular streets and the branching waterways is especially striking. Few town maps show so clearly how a settlement adapts to its landscape.

Riverside grid
Streets are laid out in a compact, fairly regular pattern on the firmer ground near the channel, giving the town a clear, contained shape.
Delta waterways
Beyond the town, countless smaller channels and lagoons branch through the wetlands, creating an intricate, almost organic pattern that fills the outer parts of the frame.
