Uravakonda is a town in the Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh, in the semi-arid Rayalaseema region. The landscape here is shaped by low rainfall and hard rock, and from above the town appears as a dense cluster of streets surrounded by broad, open fields and scattered granite hills.
The older part of the town is tightly packed, with narrow lanes following the ground rather than a grid. Roads lead out towards neighbouring towns and villages, and the countryside around is marked by field boundaries, tanks for storing water and rocky rises that break up the plain.
