Varjota Map Poster & Print
Varjota is a municipality in the interior of Ceará, in the semi-arid sertão of northeastern Brazil. Its defining map feature is water, which is unusual for the region: the town lies near the Araras reservoir, a large dam on the Acaraú River that stores water in a landscape where rain is seasonal and often scarce.
The town itself is compact, a modest grid of streets around a central area, with blocks thinning out quickly into open country. The reservoir spreads to the side in an irregular, branching outline, filling the valleys of the surrounding terrain. Dirt roads and field tracks radiate from the town across the land in loose lines.
