Walsall sits on the north-western edge of the West Midlands conurbation. On the map it merges with Wolverhampton, Wednesbury and West Bromwich into one continuous spread of streets. The historic centre sits around a low hill topped by the parish church of St Matthew. From there the older roads run downhill into the market area and out toward the neighbouring towns.
The Walsall Canal and its branches weave through the industrial districts as part of the dense Birmingham Canal Navigations network, and the M6 sweeps past to the west. These lines give a Walsall map poster its structure: curving waterways, straight rail corridors and a heavy motorway band framing the finer residential streets.
The town built its reputation on leather, and Walsall saddlery and leather goods have long been known around the world. There is green space too.
