Ware Map Poster & Print
Ware grew up at a crossing of the River Lea on the old road north from London, and the river still defines the town on a map. The Lee Navigation runs through the centre, with the historic high street lying alongside the water and newer residential streets climbing the gentle slopes of the valley on either side.
For centuries Ware was a centre of the malting trade, sending malt down the river to London, and several former maltings still stand near the water. The town is also known for the Great Bed of Ware, an enormous carved Elizabethan bed mentioned in Shakespeare's Twelfth Night and now held by the Victoria and Albert Museum.
A Ware map poster captures the long, narrow shape of a river town, with the green corridor of the Lea valley running across the frame and the streets gathering around the crossing. Along the riverbank, a row of small eighteenth-century gazebos once attached to inns and houses adds to a townscape that feels quietly particular.
