Yerba Buena lies west of San Miguel de Tucumán, where the flat, densely built plain begins to rise toward the Sierra de San Javier. On the map, the city's grid continues into it along a long main avenue, then gradually loosens into winding streets, gardens and gated neighbourhoods as the ground climbs.
The town is known for its greenery and cooler air, and it has become one of the preferred residential areas of the Tucumán metropolitan region. Behind it, the forested slopes of the sierra rise steeply, with roads switching back up toward the summit and its views over the plain.
