Ypenburg Map Poster & Print
Ypenburg is a district on the south-eastern edge of The Hague. It was built from the late 1990s onwards as part of the Dutch VINEX programme of new residential areas. Its site has an unusual history, since much of it was once Ypenburg airfield, an important military and later civil airfield that closed in the early 1990s.
From above, the district is a typical example of contemporary Dutch planning. Water is everywhere: canals, ponds and long ditches separate neighbourhoods and run alongside streets. Housing is arranged in varied clusters, each with its own geometry, and major motorways trace the district's edges.
A Ypenburg map poster shows how a flat, former airfield became a patchwork of neighbourhoods. The blocks of houses, the pale ribbons of water and the strong lines of the surrounding roads combine into a detailed but orderly composition. It is a quietly distinctive map among the Dutch suburbs.
