Crossroads centre
The old town is organised around a central crossroads, with main streets running out toward the four cardinal directions. On the poster it reads as a neat, balanced centre.

关于地图
Zhangye Map Poster & Print
Zhangye lies in the Hexi Corridor of Gansu province, the narrow strip of fertile land between the Qilian Mountains and the desert that carried the Silk Road westward. The city grew as an oasis fed by the Hei River, and its core is a compact, fairly regular grid centred on a crossroads, with irrigated fields and wetlands spreading around it.
Unusually for a city on the edge of the desert, Zhangye has extensive wetlands just north of the centre, now protected as a park with lakes and reed beds. In the old town stands the Great Buddha Temple, which houses one of the largest reclining Buddha statues in China, dating from the Western Xia period.
Beyond the city lie the Zhangye Danxia landforms, where layers of coloured sandstone form striped hills that attract visitors from across the country. A Zhangye map poster shows the more human side of this landscape: a clear grid, water channels and green fields laid out against the empty ground of the corridor.

Northern wetlands
Lakes, channels and reed beds spread north of the centre, breaking the grid into irregular watery shapes. They give the map an unexpected softness for a desert city.
Oasis edge
Irrigated fields surround the city in a patchwork of straight lines, fading toward empty ground. The transition marks where the oasis ends and the dry land of the corridor begins.

为什么选 Zhangye
一张有意义的地图
Travellers who follow the Silk Road through Gansu often remember Zhangye as a green pause between long stretches of desert. A map of the city captures that sense of arrival in a very simple form.
Edit the title, add a travel date in the subtitle and choose one of five styles; Sand suits the desert setting well. Download the $9 files in six print sizes, or order a matte print with an optional wooden frame.
