Zverevo Map Poster & Print
Zverevo is a town in Rostov oblast in southern Russia, part of the eastern Donbas coal basin. It grew up around coal mining in the twentieth century, and the map still shows that origin. Residential districts are laid out on regular grids. Around the edges lie former mine sites, railway spurs and the conical spoil heaps typical of the region.
The streets are wide and straight, typical of planned Soviet industrial towns, with blocks of apartment buildings in the centre and lower houses on the outskirts. Small rivers and gullies cut through the surrounding steppe, and their winding lines contrast with the rigid street plan. Beyond the town, open farmland stretches in every direction.
