Industrial waterfront
Refinery piers, port terminals and ship-recycling berths stretch along the coast, giving the shoreline a series of straight-edged shapes that contrast with the natural bays.

Die Karte
Aliağa Map Poster & Print
Aliağa is on the Aegean coast of Turkey, in İzmir Province, about an hour north of the city of İzmir. The coastline here is broken into small bays and headlands, and on a map it is one of the most striking features: a series of jetties, piers and harbour basins pushing out into the sea from an otherwise curved shore.
Many of those structures are industrial. Aliağa has one of Turkey's main oil refineries, a large petrochemical complex, several commercial ports and a well-known ship-recycling zone, where ocean vessels are dismantled on the shore. These facilities occupy large tracts of coast north and south of the town and show up as big geometric blocks beside the residential streets.
The same coast has much older layers. The ancient Aeolian cities of Kyme and Myrina lie nearby, and their harbours once traded across the Aegean. An Aliağa map poster places the compact town between hills and sea, with the angular shapes of modern industry and the curve of an ancient shoreline in the same frame.

Ancient Kyme
The remains of Kyme, one of the major Aeolian cities of antiquity, are on the coast nearby and tie the modern port town to a much older maritime past.
Aegean bays
Between the headlands, small bays curve inland and give the coastline a scalloped outline that frames the town on its seaward side.

Warum Aliağa
Eine Karte mit Bedeutung
Aliağa means work for many people: shifts at the refinery, the port or the shipyards, and years spent on this stretch of coast. A map of the town recognises that connection in a calm, unfussy way.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line, with Turkish characters if you like. Noir and Blueprint suit the industrial coastline, and Paper and Sand give it a softer feel. Download the $9 HD set or order a printed poster.
