Coats Island Map Poster & Print
Coats Island lies in northern Hudson Bay, in Canada's territory of Nunavut, south of Southampton Island. It is large, about five and a half thousand square kilometres, and mostly low and flat, with tundra, gravel ridges and scattered lakes. From above its outline is broad and gently curving, shaped by long shorelines rather than deep fjords.
The island has no permanent population. It is known for its wildlife, including walrus that haul out on its shores and large colonies of seabirds nesting on coastal cliffs, which Canadian researchers have studied for decades. Human traces on the map are faint, little more than the names given to its capes and bays.
A Coats Island map poster is almost pure geography: a wide outline set in the waters of Hudson Bay, with inland lakes and streams drawn as fine marks. It suits people who value space and restraint in a picture, and who find a quiet grandeur in a map with almost nothing written on it.

Seabird cliffs
Stretches of coastal cliff host large nesting colonies of seabirds, rare steep ground along a shoreline that is otherwise mostly low and smooth.
Hudson Bay waters
The surrounding bay is frozen for much of the year, and on the map it fills the frame on all sides, setting the island's gentle curves against wide, empty water.

Warum Coats Island
Eine Karte mit Bedeutung
Coats Island suits Arctic researchers, people from Nunavut and anyone fascinated by the far north and its wildlife. Its broad, calm outline brings a sense of distance and openness to a room, and it reads clearly even from across the wall.
Add a title and subtitle, perhaps the year of a field season, or the coordinates line, and choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Blueprint and Noir both suit the cold, spacious character of Hudson Bay.
