Kafr ad Dawwār Map Poster & Print
Kafr ad Dawwār lies in the western Nile Delta in Beheira, a short distance southeast of Alexandria. The land is completely flat, and the map shows it: the town grows along straight transport lines rather than around hills or bends. A canal and the railway between Cairo and Alexandria run past it, and the streets arrange themselves in parallel bands along them.
In the twentieth century the town became a major centre of Egypt's textile industry, with large spinning and weaving works. Factory compounds and the housing built around them show up as big, regular blocks among the denser informal neighbourhoods. On every side, a fine patchwork of irrigated fields and small channels reaches right up to the edge of the town.
A Kafr ad Dawwār map poster gives a clear image of a delta town at work: straight lines of water and rail, compact streets, and farmland fitted closely around them. The composition is quiet and linear, and the thin geometry of the irrigation channels around the edges adds a fine texture that shows especially well on larger print sizes.
