Kórinthos Map Poster & Print
Kórinthos, modern Corinth, sits on the northern coast of the Peloponnese next to the narrow isthmus that connects the peninsula to mainland Greece. The town was rebuilt on a new site after an earthquake in 1858, and the reconstruction gave it an unusually regular grid of straight streets and rectangular blocks that run down to the waterfront on the Gulf of Corinth.
A few kilometres to the east, the Corinth Canal, completed in 1893, cuts straight through the isthmus between steep rock walls and links the Gulf of Corinth to the Saronic Gulf. Southwest of the modern town lie the ruins of ancient Corinth, and above them rises the fortified hill of Acrocorinth.
A Kórinthos map poster combines several strong shapes. The grid is orderly and dense, the coastline curves gently along the gulf, and the canal draws a razor-straight line across the land. Together they make a clear, graphic composition that places the town at an important geographical crossroads.
