Owase Map Poster & Print
Owase lies on the eastern coast of the Kii Peninsula in Mie Prefecture. The map explains the town's shape right away: a narrow strip of flat land along Owase Bay, backed by steep, heavily forested mountains. Streets fill the small plain tightly, the harbour takes up the waterfront, and the roads that leave town have to twist through valleys or tunnel through ridges.
The town is known in Japan as one of the rainiest places in the country, and the wet climate supports the dense cedar and cypress forests around it. Fishing and forestry have long been the main industries. The Iseji route of the Kumano Kodo pilgrimage network passes through the area, crossing the mountain passes on either side.
An Owase map poster is mostly about the coastline. Inlets, piers and the shape of the bay give it a strong, irregular edge, while the mountains behind fill the frame with empty space. The Blueprint style suits the water especially well, and Classic black and white keeps the fine lines of the harbour crisp.

Narrow coastal plain
The town's streets pack onto a small area of flat ground, making a dense block of lines hemmed in between the water and the slopes.
Mountain roads
Routes out of Owase wind along valleys and around ridges, giving the edges of the map long, sinuous strokes.
