Seasonal wadi
A wide wadi runs past the town, dry for much of the year and carrying water after the rains. It cuts a soft, irregular line through the plain.

Al-Junaynah Map Poster & Print
Al-Junaynah, also written El Geneina, is the capital of West Darfur and lies close to Sudan’s border with Chad. The town sits on an open, dry plain. A broad seasonal wadi runs past it, flowing briefly after the summer rains and otherwise dry as a sandy bed. On a map it is the most distinctive natural line.
The town was historically the seat of the Masalit sultanate, and it grew as a market and administrative centre for the western borderlands. Its streets form loose blocks of compounds divided by sandy lanes. The more regular grids of government and market districts are at the centre, and the roads leading out towards Chad and the rest of Darfur are the main axes.
An Al-Junaynah map poster presents a spare, open landscape. Few features dominate. There is the town, the wadi, an airstrip and roads heading across the plain. For people with ties to the town, many of whom now live far away, even that simple outline carries a strong sense of place.

Compound streets
Residential areas are made up of walled compounds and sandy lanes, giving the map a loose, cellular texture around the central blocks.
Roads to the border
Routes run west towards Chad and east into Darfur, giving the town a simple frame of main roads across open land.

For families and communities from West Darfur, many living far from home, a map of Al-Junaynah preserves the town’s shape: its lanes, the wadi and the roads out. It is a quiet way to keep a place present.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates, for example with a family name or a date, and choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Sand suits the dry, open plain.
