Al Qā’im sits on the Euphrates in Anbar Province, close to where the river enters Iraq from Syria. The town and its neighbouring communities have grown along the river, so the map reads as a long, narrow band of streets following the water. On one side lies the green strip of irrigated land; on the other, open desert.
That contrast is the defining feature of the Al Qā’im map poster. Fields and palm groves line the river in a thin, detailed strip, while the built-up areas form clusters of rectangular blocks. Beyond them, the drawing opens into wide empty space, giving the composition a stark and clear structure.
