Anserma occupies a high ridge in the western Andes of Colombia, in the coffee-growing country above the Cauca valley. The town's grid is squeezed by the terrain: straight blocks run along the crest, then stop abruptly where the land drops, leaving the edges of the map scalloped by ravines and winding rural roads that follow the slopes downhill.
It is among the older Spanish foundations in this part of Colombia, established in the late 1530s and named for the Indigenous Anserma people who lived here before the conquest. The colonial pattern of a central plaza surrounded by regular blocks is still easy to read, and it anchors the composition of an Anserma map poster.
Beyond the centre, the mountains take over. Farm tracks switch back across slopes planted with coffee and plantain, and the lines on the map loosen into curves that follow contour rather than plan. The result is a portrait of a town shaped equally by Spanish geometry and Andean topography.
