Route de l'Espoir
The national highway passes through the town and dominates the composition. It links Ayoun El Atrous with the rest of the country and gives the map its main direction.

Ayoun El Atrous Map Poster & Print
Ayoun El Atrous is the capital of the Hodh El Gharbi region in southeastern Mauritania, not far from the border with Mali. It lies in the Sahel, where sandy plains, low rocky hills and dry riverbeds that fill briefly in the rainy season meet. From above, the town is a spread of wide, sandy streets and walled compounds that fade gradually into the surrounding terrain.
The town is a stop on the Route de l'Espoir, the long paved road that crosses southern Mauritania from Nouakchott to Néma. That road forms the main axis of the map, and the market, administrative buildings and much of the town's activity gather near it. The first word of its name comes from the Arabic for springs or wells, a reminder of how much water matters in this landscape.
An Ayoun El Atrous map poster conveys the openness of the Sahel. The road runs straight through the frame, the town's streets form a loose, low-density grid, and the land around them is almost blank. The minimal black-and-white style suits a place where space and distance are part of daily life.

Open town grid
Streets are wide and blocks are spacious, with compounds set well apart. On the poster this produces a light, airy pattern typical of Sahelian towns.
Rocky and sandy surroundings
Low hills and dry watercourses around the town appear only as occasional tracks and edges. The sparse detail shows how quickly the town gives way to open country.
