Balai Pungut Map Poster & Print
Balai Pungut is in Riau province on the Indonesian island of Sumatra, in the Bengkalis regency. The land here is low and flat, part of the wide lowland plain of eastern Sumatra. On the map the settlement appears as a cluster of streets around main roads, with the surrounding land divided into large, regular blocks.
Much of the countryside in this part of Riau has been developed for oil palm and other plantations, and the plantation roads run in straight lines, often at right angles. That gives the landscape around Balai Pungut a very geometric pattern, with rivers and wetland remnants as the only natural curves.
The wider area is part of the oil-producing region of Riau, and industry and plantations have shaped where roads and settlements grew. A Balai Pungut map poster shows the town's cluster of streets set within that orderly grid, a clear picture of how this part of Sumatra looks from above.

Roadside settlement
Houses and shops cluster along the main roads, so the built-up area stretches in lines rather than forming a round, compact centre.
Lowland waterways
Small rivers and wet areas wind across the flat land, providing the only irregular, curving shapes in an otherwise straight-lined landscape.
